Westminster Cathedral Chooses PureJewels
December 2004
Sterling effort for company’s cufflinks
An internet jewellery company has designed and produced exclusive cufflinks for Westminster Cathedral.
This is the first product made for one of England’s oldest institutions to be designed by Newham based Bhanji Gokaldas PureJewels.com. The company, in Green Street, Forest Gate, was a finalist at the prestigious East London and Essex Business Awards 2004 in the business of the year category. The cufflinks, which make an ideal gift for Christmas, mark the beginning of a range of exclusively made sterling silver jewellery featuring the great seal of Westminster Cathedral.
Efforts to re-brand the traditional seal and make it fashionable have played a part in the decision to create the cufflinks and the pendant, chain, earrings and charms to follow.
“This is an opportunity for the cathedral’s seal to be more accessible to different people, regardless of religion or background,” said Sid Reddy from Westminster Cathedral’s finance and planning committee, who came up with the original idea. “We have had many favourable comments from people. Cardinal Cormac Murphy – O’Conner and Monsignor Mark Langham wear them and they are always asked where the cufflinks are from.”
Mr Reddy came across PureJewels.com while searching for a company to handle the project. He said: “I was very impressed with the professionalism of the website and sent them an email to get more information.
“I have not looked back since. We are really happy with the product and the service they have provided us. It was straight forward and on a one-to-one basis, which has been really encouraging.”
PureJewels.com brand director Jayant Raniga said: “It took us nine months to develop a product that we were satisfied with in order for us to take it to Westminster Cathedral. “It is such a majestic place and what we produce has to reflect that. The cufflinks are also a real fashion accessory, which can also be the perfect gift and can even be worn by the groom on his wedding day. “We worked in partnership with the cathedral to create a quality product, which will be consistent throughout.”
The company has also launched a catalogue detailing products to commemorate the first year anniversary of the website.
