To understand the final price, you need to look at the gold&#8217;s purity, weight and the work involved in making the piece.<\/p><p>Once you understand that calculation, comparing gold jewellery becomes much easier.<\/p><h2><strong>What does gold price per gram actually mean?<\/strong><\/h2><p>The gold price per gram is simply the value assigned to one gram of gold at a particular point in the market.<\/p><p>Gold prices move throughout the day. The rate can be affected by international markets, currency movements, investor demand and wider economic conditions.<\/p><p>There is also an important distinction between <strong>24ct gold and jewellery gold<\/strong>.<\/p><p>A market reference price is generally based on very high-purity gold. Jewellery can be made from 22ct, 18ct and other purities, so the price per gram needs to be considered in relation to the actual gold content.<\/p><h2><strong>How do you calculate the value of gold by weight?<\/strong><\/h2><p>The basic calculation is straightforward:<\/p><p><strong>Gold value = weight \u00d7 applicable gold price per gram<\/strong><\/p><p>For example, imagine the relevant gold rate for an example calculation is \u00a3100 per gram.<\/p><p>A 10-gram piece at that rate would have:<\/p><p><strong>10 \u00d7 \u00a3100 = \u00a31,000<\/strong><\/p><p>But that would only represent the metal value at that assumed rate.<\/p><p>It would not automatically be the final retail price of a finished jewellery piece.<\/p><p><strong>How does purity change the price per gram?<\/strong><\/p><p>This is where carat becomes important.<\/p><p>Common gold purities include:<\/p><ul><li><strong>24ct<\/strong> \u2013 approximately 99.9% pure<\/li><li><strong>22ct<\/strong> \u2013 approximately 91.6% pure<\/li><li><strong>18ct<\/strong> \u2013 75% pure<\/li><li><strong>14ct<\/strong> \u2013 approximately 58.5% pure<\/li><li><strong>9ct<\/strong> \u2013 37.5% pure<\/li><\/ul><p>If you start with a 24ct reference price, you can use the purity to estimate the underlying metal value of another carat.<\/p><p>For example, if the 24ct reference rate were \u00a3100 per gram:<\/p><p><strong>\u00a3100 \u00d7 0.916 = \u00a391.60<\/strong><\/p><p>That gives an approximate 22ct metal value of \u00a391.60 per gram.<\/p><p>This is an <strong>example calculation only<\/strong>, not today&#8217;s live gold rate.<\/p><h2><strong>How is the 22ct gold price per gram calculated?<\/strong><\/h2><p>22ct gold is approximately 91.6% pure.<\/p><p>A simple way to estimate its metal value from a 24ct reference price is:<\/p><p><strong>24ct price \u00d7 22 \u00f7 24<\/strong><\/p><p>For example, if 24ct gold were \u00a3100 per gram:<\/p><p><strong>\u00a3100 \u00d7 22 \u00f7 24 = \u00a391.67 per gram<\/strong><\/p><p>You may see slightly different figures depending on the exact purity and market rate used.<\/p><p>If you want to check how today&#8217;s 22ct rate is derived and what can affect the final jewellery price, see <strong>how to find today&#8217;s 22ct gold price for jewellery in the UK<\/strong>.<\/p><h2><strong>Why doesn&#8217;t the jewellery price match the gold price per gram?<\/strong><\/h2><p>This is where many customers get confused.<\/p><p>You might see a gold rate online and then look at a 22ct necklace priced considerably higher.<\/p><p>That does not necessarily mean the jewellery is overpriced.<\/p><p>The finished price can include:<\/p><ul><li>The actual gold value<\/li><li>\u00dccretlendirme yapmak<\/li><li>Design and workmanship<\/li><li>Gemstones or diamonds<\/li><li>Hallmarking and other costs<\/li><li>VAT where applicable<\/li><\/ul><p>The amount added beyond the raw gold value depends on the piece.<\/p><p>A plain gold band and a highly detailed bridal necklace should not be expected to have the same pricing structure.<\/p><h2><strong>What are making charges?<\/strong><\/h2><p>Making charges cover the work involved in turning gold into a finished piece of jewellery.<\/p><p>The cost can vary depending on the design and how the jewellery is produced.<\/p><p>A simple design may require relatively little work.
