Cleaning gold jewellery at home can be safe and effective when done with care and the right methods. Whether you’re refreshing a simple 22ct bangle or a delicate gemstone-studded pendant, here’s how to gently restore your jewellery’s natural shine without causing damage.

Safe At-Home Method for Cleaning Gold Jewellery

What You’ll Need:

  • A small bowl

  • Mild dish soap (avoid strong detergents)

  • Warm water (not hot)

  • A soft-bristled toothbrush

  • A microfibre cloth or soft towel

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Cleaning Solution
Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl.

  2. Soak the Jewellery
Place your gold jewellery in the solution and let it soak for 10–15 minutes. This helps loosen dirt and residue.

  3. Gently Brush
Using a soft toothbrush, gently clean around crevices, clasps, and settings. Be especially gentle if the piece includes gemstones or filigree work.

  4. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the jewellery under lukewarm running water to remove any soap residue. Use a fine mesh strainer if you’re cleaning small items to prevent loss.

  5. Dry & Polish
Pat dry with a soft cloth and let it air-dry fully. Gently buff to restore shine.

Things to Avoid

  • Harsh chemicals like bleach, acetone, or toothpaste

  • Ultrasonic cleaners (unless jewellery is plain gold without stones)

  • Scrubbing with abrasive cloths or brushes
