What Are 22ct Gold Rings?
A 22ct gold ring contains 91.6% pure gold, the purity standard at the heart of traditional Indian, Pakistani, and South Asian jewellery. It is higher in gold content than the 18ct rings common in Western jewellery, and this difference is visible: the colour is richer and deeper, and the piece carries more intrinsic gold value. All 22ct gold rings sold in the UK must carry a hallmark at PureJewels, every ring is stamped with the 916 fineness mark and the London Assay Office leopard’s head.

Understanding the 916 Hallmark
916 is the fineness mark for 22-carat gold — it means 91.6 parts of pure gold per 1,000 parts of metal. UK law requires all gold rings above 1g to carry a hallmark from an independent UK Assay Office. The hallmark is stamped on the inner band — you may need a loupe or phone camera to read it. At PureJewels, every ring carries the 916 mark and the London Assay Office leopard’s head. If a ring has no hallmark, do not buy it.

Mid to heavy weight rings with engraved, twisted, embossed, or stone-set designs. For parties, religious occasions, and everyday looks that call for something more than a plain band.

Frequently Asked Questions About 22ct Gold Rings
How much does a 22ct gold ring cost in the UK?
A lightweight 22ct ladies ring (2–4g) starts from around £280 at PureJewels. Mid-weight rings in the 5–8g range run from approximately £480 to £850. Statement and bridal pieces above 9g can reach £2,000 or more depending on weight and design. Gents rings start from around £330. All prices include VAT and are updated regularly to reflect the current daily gold rate.
What does 916 stamped inside a ring mean?
916 is the fineness mark for 22-carat gold — the ring contains 91.6 parts of pure gold per 1,000 parts of metal. The remaining 8.4% is an alloy (usually copper or silver) added for strength. All 22ct gold jewellery in the UK must display this stamp alongside an Assay Office mark to be sold legally.
Can I wear a 22ct gold ring every day?
Yes — with reasonable care. 22ct gold is slightly softer than 18ct due to its higher gold content, so plain and smooth-finish rings are more resilient for daily wear than heavily textured designs. Remove before heavy manual work, gardening, or vigorous exercise. Rinse monthly with warm soapy water. Have it professionally polished every year or two to restore the original finish.
What is the difference between 22ct and 18ct gold rings?
22ct gold (916) contains more gold and has the deep, rich yellow colour associated with traditional South Asian jewellery. It is the preferred purity for plain bands and traditional designs where the gold itself is the statement. 18ct gold (750) contains more alloy, making it harder and more scratch-resistant — preferred when diamonds or gemstones are set into the ring. Both are fully hallmarked and excellent quality.
How do I find my UK ring size?
Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger. Mark where it overlaps, flatten it, and measure in millimetres. Match this to the UK letter size chart above. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest. Most women’s ring sizes fall between L and O; most men’s fall between Q and T. Our free first-order exchange covers sizing if the ring does not fit.
